The basic concept has been around for a long time.
Propane is introduced into a Turbo Charged Diesel Engine via the injection nozzle placed in the fresh air inlet to the turbo charger. The propane acts as an accelerant promoting a more even and complete burn of the diesel fuel. This results in a power and fuel efficiency increase as well as a reduction in tailpipe emissions. On its own, propane WILL NOT self ignite in a compression cycle engine. On a typical power stroke of a CI engine, with propane added to the fresh air charge, the diesel fuel initiates combustion which in turn ignites the propane-air mixture. The result is a more even and complete burn of the diesel fuel increasing the duration of the power stroke.
THE BIRTH OF THE DIESEL MAGNUM™
FIRE 'EM UP Inc. (www.fireemup.com), Gurnee, Illinois noticed a number of years ago their primary customer base was making the change to Diesel Engine platforms. Company President, Mr. Jeffrey Bach, began to investigate propane systems for Diesel Engines. Mr. Bach's opinion was; the products on the market were just not up to his standards and did not seem to be engineered for a "heavy duty" truck.
All available systems at the time were purchased and tested.
Being a former Diesel Instructor at U.T.I., Mr. Bach quickly concluded that these systems had no engine protection features. Most all were vapor draw systems using pressure regulators designed for stationary applications. Others much to his disappointment were nothing more than a glossy wax box of BBQ parts. In fairness, it must be said that all these systems most certainly improved engine performance. In no case however, could quantifiable claims of increased efficiency or an emission benefit be confirmed.
Mr. Bach was most concerned about the total lack of fail safes and engine protection.
"In order to market a product to our customers that we could confidently sell, install and stand behind we needed to build such a product." Mr. Bach concluded, the addition of an exhaust gas temperature sensor to the system was deemed absolutely critical. The days of tuning any engine (by ear) have become passe and obsolete with the newer technologies that are available to improve fuel economy.
After three years of research and development the Diesel Magnum™ was born. All the features Mr. Bach deemed necessary for his customers, have been addressed thus making the Patented Diesel Magnum™ the safest, best performing Propane Injection System on the market today.
With the precision injection capability only available with the Diesel Magnum™, exhaust emissions including particulate matter and NOx are significantly reduced. By accelerating the flame front within the combustion chamber two things happen:
NOx is reduced by enhancing the mixture at the tip of the flame front with the correct amount of propane, which reduces the residence time of the diesel fuel burn in a high temperature area.
Particulate Matter (PM) is reduced by enhancing the burn rate of the existing fuel charge (diesel) throughout the entire combustion chamber rather than just in the intense hot area where ignition is initiated.
The result is that more of the diesel fuel charge is being burned (increased efficiency) in the colder areas of the combustion chamber, which would normally be expelled into the exhaust stream.

"What's in the "ROUND THING"?
The Micro-Processor, propane injectors, Turbo-Boost sensor and other various components are enclosed in a 2-piece aluminum housing for ease of installation and additional protection.
